NALFO Awards

Every year we recognize our member organizations and their contributions with the NALFO Awards. It is an opportunity for the Latino/a Fraternity & Sorority community to recognize those individuals, chapters, and organizations within our community who have successfully exemplified high standards of leadership, service, scholarship and unity. We recognize members and member organizations in the following categories:

Upcoming Nomination Period

We will begin accepting nominations for all award categories for 2023 beginning mid-September through early November.

  • Eligibility Period is July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023
  • Deadline to apply is tentatively set for October 15, 2023 at 11:59 pm Pacific Time
  • Winners will be announced at a special session of the 2023 Fall Business Meeting taking place on Saturday, December 2nd.

NALFO Awards – Organizational Nomination Form

Only an organization’s national governing body or main administrative office may submit a nomination for the Organizational Award categories. Please reach out to your NALFO Representative or National Leadership Team.

NALFO Awards – Individual & Chapter Nomination Form

This year the Individual and Chapter Award categories will be open to a public nomination process where a Chapter Advisor, Fraternity/Sorority Life Staff or Professional, or member of a NALFO member organization can nominate an individual person or chapter for consideration.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Individual and Chapter Awards

This year, the Individual and Chapter award categories will be opened up to a public nomination processes where a Chapter Advisor, Fraternity/Sorority Life Staff or Professional, or member of a NALFO member organization can nominate an individual person or chapter for consideration.

  • Individual members or Chapters of NALFO organizations are eligible to be nominated / self-nominate
  • Individuals/Chapters must be recognized and in good standing with their respective organizations
  • There is no limit on the number of nominations that can be submitted however only one (1) winner will be chosen for each Award type in these categories.
Organizational Awards

In the Organizational award category, the Awards Selection Committee will consider only those nominations submitted by an organization’s national governing body or main administrative office.

  • All NALFO member organizations in good standing are eligible to submit one (1) self-nomination for the National Philanthropic Organization of the Year Award and one (1) nomination for the Organization of the Year Award.
  • Each organization may submit up to three (3) nominations for the Lifetime Achievement award.
  • Two (2) winners will be selected for each Award type in this category: a winner representing the Sororities and a winner representing the Fraternities/Co-Ed Organizations.

ELIGIBILITY PERIOD

Nominations and subsequent awards are based on achievements during the following eligibility period: July 1 of the previous year through June 30 of the current year.

For the next Awards season, we will accept nominations based on achievements from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.

AWARD DESCRIPTIONS: INDIVIDUAL

Undergraduate Excellence

In recognition of an undergraduate member who has demonstrated excellence in the following categories:

  • Academic Achievement
  • Leadership Excellence
  • Community Service
  • Commitment to the Latino Greek Community

Campus Leadership Excellence

In recognition of an undergraduate who has demonstrated their commitment to their organization, University Campus and the Latino Greek Community through their service in leadership positions in their organization, campus and/or the Latino Greek Community as a whole.

Undergraduate Philanthropist of the Year

In recognition of an Undergraduate who has successfully integrated philanthropy as part of their everyday life through continual contribution and participation to philanthropic events.

Organizational Leadership Excellence

In recognition of an alumnus/alumna who has demonstrated their commitment to their organization and the Latino Greek Community through their service in leadership positions in their organization or the Latino Greek Community as a whole.

Rising Professional

In recognition of aspiring professionals or entrepreneurs (graduated less than 5 years ago) who embody the standards of the Latino Greek Community through their professional accomplishments and community involvement.

Professional of the Year

In recognition of established professionals or entrepreneurs (graduated at least 5 years ago) who embody the standards of the Latino Greek Community through their professional accomplishments and community involvement.

Chapter Advisor of the Year

In recognition of a college/university professional or a NALFO member alumnus/alumna who supports the standards of the Latino Greek Community through their professional accomplishments as a NALFO fraternity/sorority chapter advisor.

Willy A. Rivas Memorial Greek Unity Award – Undergraduate

This award is in memory of Willy A. Rivas, a member of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc., and esteemed champion of NALFO and Greek Unity. It is awarded as a monetary scholarship in recognition of an undergraduate member who has demonstrated a genuine commitment to Greek Unity and has met the following criteria:

• Is involved in the advancement of fraternity / sorority life either through a NALFO committee, local NALFO council, or other interfraternal council, committee, or board

• Is vested in the growth and success of Greek life beyond their own organization

• Positively represents fraternity / sorority life through civic engagement and participation in initiatives to develop fraternal members and improve the Greek community

• The nominee may not have been previously awarded this scholarship within the past two (2) years

Willy A. Rivas Memorial Greek Unity Award – Alumni

This award is in memory of Willy A. Rivas, a member of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc., and esteemed champion of NALFO and Greek Unity. Philanthropic Excellence

Undergraduate

In recognition of an Undergraduate Chapter which has successfully integrated philanthropy as part of their annual programming and events.

Alumni/Graduate

In recognition of an Alumni Chapter which has successfully integrated philanthropy as part of their annual programming and events.

Undergraduate Chapter of the Year

In recognition of an undergraduate chapter who has demonstrated excellence in the following categories (all must be covered in application):

  • Academic Achievement
  • Leadership Excellence
  • Community Service
  • Chapter Integrity
  • Commitment to the Latino Greek Community

Alumni/Graduate Chapter of the Year

In recognition of an alumni chapter who has demonstrated excellence in the following categories (all must be covered in application):

  • Community Service
  • Quality of programming for alumni members
  • Commitment to the Latino community as a whole

AWARD DESCRIPTIONS: ORGANIZATIONAL

National Philanthropic Organization of the Year

In recognition of an organization that has demonstrated excellence in the following categories (all must be covered in the nomination):

  • Promoting of community service and philanthropic endeavors at the National level
  • Participation of community service outside of their respective organization
  • Proven success of national community service programming
  • Participation in NALFO philanthropic events

Organization of the Year

In recognition of an organization that has demonstrated excellence in the following categories (all must be covered in the nomination):

  • Promoting academic achievement within the organization
  • Promotion of community service and philanthropic endeavors
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest integrity among their undergraduate members,
    chapters and alumni
  • Commitment to the Latino Greek Community

Lifetime Achievement

In recognition of an individual’s influence and significant contributions to the development and advancement of the Latinx Greek movement/community in three (3) categories beyond contributions to their own organization:

  1. Profession/Field of Study pertaining to the Latinx community
  2. Community service to the Latinx Community
  3. Dedication to the unification of NALFO member organizations

Nominees should demonstrate impact in business, research, artistic, leadership, community, educational, and/or philanthropic endeavors across the categories.
