The National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO) and the Association of Fraternity / Sorority Advisors Foundation (AFAF) announced today the establishment of a permanent endowment, funded by the collaborative efforts of NALFO member organizations, to be used for programming, education and trainings with specific focus on topics related to diversity and inclusion.
The purpose of the endowment is to provide financial support for programs and/or initiatives that meet outcomes in line with the mission and vision of NALFO. With this endowment the organization seeks to provide programs, services, and educational opportunities that educate fraternity/sorority advisors on how to empower Latinx fraternal organizations and understand our student populations.
Over the past two years, NALFO has been restructuring and working with its member organizations to assure the needs and concerns of Latinx fraternal organizations are being met. Acknowledging the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors plays a key role in educating the professionals advising our undergraduate members, we found it imperative that we collaborate in creating opportunities for advisors to develop an understanding and appreciation of cultural and human differences, social responsibility, global perspectives and a sense of civic responsibility.
“We are proud to announce the creation of the NALFO Unity Endowment. The collective efforts of the member organizations within our umbrella made this goal a reality, with special thanks to Phi Iota Alpha for their significant contribution towards meeting this goal” says Maria Diaz, Commissioner of Operations for NALFO. “By creating this endowment we hope to continue the work with campus professionals to create supportive and developmental spaces for our members to learn and thrive.”
Ben Pendry, Chairman of the AFA Foundation added, “the AFA Foundation is committed to building partnerships which support the growth and development of AFA members. We are so proud of our partnership with NALFO and are thrilled to celebrate the Unity Endowment as a vehicle for increasing the diversity of programming at the annual meeting.”
The initial investment of $15,000 will establish the endowment with a goal of fully funding the endowment at $20,000 by 2017.
NALFO and the AFAF will collaborate to fully fund the Unity Endowment. We ask members of our community with a vested interest in providing campus professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to advise our organizations, to consider making contributions towards our final goal.
